Supporting the Shakespeare Hospice during Lockdown

Based in Stratford upon Avon the Shakespeare Hospice has for many years relied almost exclusively on raising its vital operating funds through sponsored events and private donations. As a regular supporter over the last decade or so I have always greatly admired the hard work and dedication all the staff and volunteers provide throughout the Shakespeare Hospice organisation. Although keen to repeat the ever popular Cotswolds 100 km charity ride the unwelcome arrival of  Covid 19 required its cancellation.  In order to maintain  an income stream during these increasingly difficult times the management suggested a number of alternative solo charity rides which supporters might complete during the month of May. My chosen target was to ride at least 500 km ,  spread  over 10 separate rides,  each with an average in excess of 1000 metres ascent – not too difficult to achieve here in the Peak District ! I had a lot of fun planning 5 varied routes each one visiting different parts of the region and rode each of the five in both directions. With plenty of sunshine and relatively quiet roads the challenge was hugely enjoyable but more importantly helped raise much needed funds for the Hospice.
